Ducmays,
I have had some similar issues with my 98 as well. I had a two fold problem causing weird fueling issues in the past. One problem was related to the temp sensor feeding the computer, and the other was the relay under the seat that runs the fuel pump. Both of my issues were intermittant; and cause me to go insane for a few months.
Both of the temp sensors are the same, one runs the computer and one feeds the LCD display. Switch them around and go for a decent ride. If the temp sensor feeding your computer is bad, it will show up on the LCD readout. Mine would occasionaly just say "LO". Yours may just start reading irraticly. The temp sensor can be bought for ~ 25 US at napa. (TS 5520)
The relay under the seat is cheap and can be bought from the napa as well for around 8 bux. Replace it, and keep the old one as spare.
Good luck! Let us know what you find please.
