I have been using marine grade electrical components - connectors, wire, and waterproof heat shrink. Marine practices call for crimping, not soldering, because of the vibration issues mentioned earlier in this thread. Additionally, environmental conditions on one of our bikes would be exposed to does not even come close to the high humidity, salty air that a salt water boat would experience. All of what you could ever need is easily obtained through West Marine. JMHO
