The contacts for the bulb are pretty poor in these lights and can lose their
springiness or corrode badly. I'd check inside the socket first and make
sure the brake contact (OK, all of them!) are clean and properly positioned
to make good contact.
Secondly on my Multistrada I recently arrived after a 200 mile trip to find
I'd lost all my rear lights inc. indicators. On the 'Strada there's a
connector under the rear subframe that had come slightly apart. If there is
similar on the ST (I am not sure) then there may be an issue with one pin in
that connector.
