Re: [DucatiST] Summertime! Ducatis, wives, swimming pools

I've run a link crane years ago, heck, I was 23 or so then. We were setting stacks on an IC unit in a powerplant. I worked for CP&L then. So one day I ran it, it has load radius and all printed in a nice chart in the cab. But, if your not absolutely sure about the load weight
and someone isn't checking your radius closely, that's what you get.

To finish my tale, the next day the lead mechanic I worked with was running it. We had lead ropes and all on the unit (probably 10 times as big and heavy as that pool. He was booming out to set it on the ground and about 6 foot off the ground when it tipped over. So, the whole crane did'nt tip and thankfully no ones leg or arm was under the stack. It ends badly lots of times when this happens.

I've seen several tip.  Had to grab a kid with a camera by the belt and run backward once, when the first 130 feet of a really big TV tower started down.  Amazing what you can't see when the viewfinder is everything...

Was on a jobsite years ago and saw one tip over. Scared the crap out of the crane crew. Not enough counterweight for that load weight and boom extension.
