Well that reminds me:
I've now owned my ST for a year and a half. I've taken all or part of
the fairing off, many times. However, it was only last weekend that I
realised that you don't have to remove the screen before removing the
upper fairing, or more to the point, replace the screen when the fairing
is back on the bike! This may seem completely obvious to the rest of
you, but I thought I'd point it out in case there are any other dummies
like me!

Anyway, I'm now liberated from that unnecessarily fiddly task! I had the
upper fairing off twice at the weekend* and it was only the second time
that I realised that I could attach the screen to the upper fairing before
putting the upper fairing on the bike.

Now I've calmed down, I'll also mention that I've replaced the screen,
which I recently snapped, with a cheapo Hong Kong import. So cheap, I'll
probably buy another just in case. A fLeabay trader called usdeur2000
(see item 170537369047) sells them for GBP 19.50 including postage to
the UK. That's about USD 31. He's fairly laid back about the packaging:
a polythene bag inside an envelope, but replaced the one that arrived
snapped very quickly. His screen holes don't align exactly with the
original, but using my new method of assembling the top fairing and screen
before fitting, made it easy to tweak the alignment. I've fitted a
clear acrylic (Perspex/Lucite) screen, which I prefer to the previous
tinted screen. usdeur2000 also sells light, dark and blue tinted screens.

I also needed to finish the edge of the screen and discovered that the
Halfords chain sell screen edging. Brute force and a heat gun made it
fit the sharp curves at the sides!

*I was following the wiring to discover why my heated grips weren't working.
It's getting chilly! Which reminds me,
those of you who use heated grips will probably be familiar with the way
the right grip is always hotter than the left grip. This is particularly
pronounced on my ST. (It's because the left grip sits directly on the
handlebar's metal, whereas the right grip sits on the plastic twist grip
and so transfers far less heat to the handlebar.)

So my question is: does anyone know of heated grips which compensate
for this by having individual heat settings, or just have higher power
on the left hand side?
