I know that this is a little late for a reply, but maybe it will help. I own 1 of each., 1996 900ss, and a 2000 ST2. The SS is great for grabbing it by the horns and running hard. It is not as all day comfortable as the ST. The ST is a much better choice for any kind of long distance touring. I've known some folks who take their 900ss/s on long tours but, my choice would the ST2. I've 10hrs straight on the St just stopping for fuel, so I can attest to the comfort of the ST vs the 900ss. My ST2 is basically configured as stock with exception of a chip, Ferracci cans and an ST3 seat A good friend of mine has an ST4s and we have had many discussions about "if could only have 1 bike(Ducati), what would it be?" ST, either a 2 for less maintenance or a 4S for the power hungry.
All the best,
Tom

So the ST2 I have lined up is for 3,500.
according to the owner,
"The bike has about 35k on it. It's had all it's maintenance done as it was due. I have paper work from the guy I bought it from. I've only put 2k or so on it in 2 years. But it has a new clutch and basket, upgraded shocks, cooling fan, ST3 seat as well as the stock one."
I noticed however that there is a 1995 900 SS SP with 1/2 the mileage for sale on ebay. Looks to be in pretty nice condition, and is in my general vicinity.
I don't know much about the 900 though. Opinions sought...
Thanks,
michael
