I had to replace my OEM battery on my 03 ST4 Dec 2011. The Stock battery worked well till November when I had to jump start the battery a couple times when I left work in the evening. I planned to replace with the same OEM AGM battery since it worked well for all those years but I tried something different.
I make up a battery pack from A123 LiFE (Lithium Iron) 2300 mah cells. The battery is made up of two 4 cell packs in parallel. Each 4 cell battery pack is in series (14.4V). Per the specs A123 cells can output 60C briefly.
I had a few 4S A123 batteries laying around that I no longer use on my RC planes so I figure I'd try. So far so good.
There are many youtube vids on how to do this. RC plane guys have been selling these A123 2300 mah cells since the Lipos are so much better now and cheaper. DeWalt uses them in their battery packs too.
Note LIPOs and LIFE are not the same battery chemistry. I would not recommend using LIPOs in place of a OEM battery.
Good luck with your decision.

Has anyone gone down South in West Virgina from Huntersville to Watoga State Forrest? Unbelievable fun motorcycle road. Then over to WV RT 92 South. Most amazing experience stopping for gas at a pizza place in the country about 45 minutes north of White Sulpher Springs and finding a 2007 Tri-color 1099 inside the pizza shoppe. Turned out to be the owners, Duc. As you can imagine we had a nice chate and he gave me a free plate of his delicious fries to go along with the coffee I bought.
