Dave, I'm sure I read somewhere (maybe WeBikeWorld) that even having two speakers is illegal in some parts of the US!
I do respect WBW's reviews on intercoms because, among other things, they are also totally committed to using earplugs, as I am. It seems paradoxical to install loud speakers to overcome self-induced partial deafness, but I suspect the constant-volume white noise that comes from wind noise is potentially much more damaging to hearing than the intermittent sounds from a music or intercom setup.
Way back when I was developing the quietest helmet environment I could, I was deeply concerned that having any unpredictable noises inside my helmet would immediately freeze my brain and result in a crash. However, my subsequent efforts to link a satnav with helmet speakers has demonstrated that the instinct for self-preservation is way too strong! One learns as one goes along...
So far, everyone's comments have not deflected me from the Interphone F5, though I'm curious about whether the module induces wind-noise. It'd be difficult to replicate an F5 unit in detail to try it out, because tiny gaps can induce funny noises. Remember those ?70's Volvos you could always hear approaching, due to the whistle that the radiator grille/badge caused?
Latest news (to me) is that the F5 mains charger can cope with 110 to 240V input, so use either side of The Pond will be easily possible, given apprpriate socket adaptors.
Now all I have to do is find the money!
