Not only that, but the low frequency noise is more damaging to the ears than high frequency noise.
Etymotics used to publish the measured isolation chart by frequency for the ER-4 and ER-6; both were excellent (almost as good as quality soft earplugs) but I can no longer find it on their web page. It may still be there somewhere though.
