Re: [DucatiST] Goodbye, and thankyou

In my garage I have the three '74 BritBikes, a Commando and Bonnie and a Trident. I also the three ducs, a '96 900SS/CR. the '03 ST4s and an '01 996. It still surprises me how heavy the BritBikes feel when I'm rearranging bikes or switching from the Ducs, mainly the ST4s to the Coimmando.

After getting back home from a long well, I was pulling out all the bikes and getting them fired up and then taking each one out for a long circle, maybe 12...15 miles, to get the oil warmed up and the moisture driven off. As each one was done, I parked it behind the Suburban. I had made the round on the ST4s and then was trying to get the 900SS fired up but had to get the battery charged up a bit.

I went about on some more chores I had to do then finally got back to the 900 and got her fired up. I got all geared up and backed the bike up and in behind the car and felt a bump. Forgot about the ST4s and inadvertantly knocked her over. She was wheels on the concrete and fairing in the grass, thus at a low angle. I didn't quite have enough strength to get her up high enough so I could get my legs under me to use them to lift. I had to get my neightbor to give me a hand to lift her up. Embarrassed!!!

In my Goldwing days, I could pick them up...though gruntingly. At least when they dropped, the saddlebag crash bars still kept them at a high angle. All my upper body strength went around my waist!

I totally agree! The ST4 is the biggest challenge in my small fleet of bikes and, as a small lightweight chap with diminishing strength, I find lighter bikes are much easier to control. At the moment, I'm concentrating on restoring a Morini Dart 350: a size of bike I'd never expected to find interesting. Nevertheless, I'll always keep the ST because it is so satisfying to ride, especially if I have a biggish trip to do. I've 'gone the extra mile' as Robert says, so I hope the ST will look after me too, so long as I don't do anything stupid....

Best of luck Jeff, and keep in touch.
