[DucatiST] lighting problem: no tail light, yet brake light OK

Hallo folks,

I've run into an odd problem I could use a little advice on. The other night on my way home from work, after working quite late, Officer Friendly noticed my tail light was out. Uh-oh. After a friendly road-side conversation that resulted in just a written warning (thank you, Officer!), I went home and put the bike in the garage for the night, to change the bulb the next day.

Except when I looked, I discovered that the bulb's filaments were both intact, and a spare bulb exhibited the same problem -- brake light OK, running light no-go! My first suspect was where I had tapped the tail light for power for my autocom six years ago, but that was intact (but as long as I was in there, I replaced the tap with a proper solder job).

The next thing I'd like to investigate is the wiring at the base of the bulb-holder, but darned if I can figure out how to remove the reflector without also removing the plastic under-seat assemblies and the #&$% bag mounts (which I'd like never to mess with again). Any thoughts?

I see Nick somehow got his safely out, as seen on this page:

Thanks for any thoughts. I'd like to get this fixed so Officer Friendly doesn't pull me over again on my regular commute home past his watering hole. :-)

Rob
ps -- earlier this year i put an HID light into the low-beam on my Ducati Designs headlamp. Woah. just woah. :)
