Re: [DucatiST] Kill switch intermittent

I had a bad relay and the starter would spin the engine, but the fuel pump would not run nor was there any spark. So, I switched the two relays under the seat and all was fine. If the kill switch is bad the starter will not spin the engine.
But then again I'm no genius as when I rebuilt my starter I assembled the fields backwards and the starter ran backwards. The fields or magnets are in the center part of the starter and I had put it together the wrong way.

Subject: [DucatiST] Kill switch intermittent

Hey all, I got a question for ya! My kill switch is starting to act funny lately. Sometimes I switch it on, and the fuel pump does not energize, and the starter will not work. If I flip it on and off a few times, it seems to be just fine. Is there anything else that could cause this to happen, besides a bad switch? I was going to just buy a used on ebay, but I am wondering if it could be something else. I hate to replace the switch if that is not the issue. Any troubleshooting I can do to ensure that it is in fact the culprit? Cleaning of some sorts?

I was thinking that maybe it could be the ignition relay as well. (This is the only relay that I have not replaced. I thought I already did it, but when I looked back at my notes, I just did the two under the seat. Apparently I never found the correct part number or source for this relay. Any body know where to pick it up? Napa couldn't match.) Could the relay do this as well? All the lights come on with the key every time. The only symptom is no fuel pump whhiir, and not starter. Just to add more information, I have been riding in some good rain lately. I am using it as my daily commuter for a while.

Thanks,

Nate
