Hi Larry, I don't seem to be able to open this one to check it out. And confirmation of a known idea would be nice. They go faster too,... so I've been lead to believe.

Re: [DucatiST] Re: Hibernating batteries over Winter "marmalade"

Since so much marmalade making will be and has been going on.
Can someone send me a jar?

Thankyou all for your advice,

I will scrap the idea of removing the battery; take up Derek's approach.
As I will be at a loose end now, if Jan would kindly forward me her recipe for making marmalade, I will endeavor to 'try my hand' into making marmalade over these winter months!
Is it much different to making 'Blackberry Jam'?

Kind Regards Al (97St2Uk)

Re: [DucatiST] Hibernating batteries over Winter

I find that mine keeps a great charge even when the once a month trickle charger I assumed was charging wasn't. The lead from my battery hook up to the charger was broken at the + terminal. :)

Same with me but I don't bother bringing it into a heated place, it just stays in the garage. As long as it gets a top up trickle charge once a month it is fine. Batteries usually last me about 6 –7 years on average.

The only things I've ever done with any battery is store it in a heated place, on a wooden platform, charge with a 1 or 2 amp trickle charger once a month for 4-6 hours, done. Last MC wet-cell battery I had lasted 8 years using that method. Currently have a wet car battery in storage using same trechnique, but 8 hrs once every 6 weeks, for the past 6 years, and it's still good. I'm still using the original battery in my 2005 ST3. I have never owned a float charger. I simply use a 1 or 2 amp trickle charger and a timer.Total investment maybe 20.00.  I find battery maintenance is *not that big of a deal*, and it requires the simplest, low-cost equipmenmt if you just pay a little attention to it now and then and *don't let it go flat*, rather than just plugging it to a float charger and walking away for 5 months assuming it's working. :-)

Re: [DucatiST] Hibernating batteries over Winter

I will have to interject my big nose into this thread at the risk of
singing my nomex underwear. I agree with everything you said Mark except
for the floor part. It depends on the floor. If it's a wood floor, no
problem, if it's a concrete floor then the battery will discharge
rapidly. Oh not in 5 minutes but over several days. I've seen it happen
and it's happened to me.
