[DucatiST] ST2 panniers COMP

So here goes, a codger (whom I hope lived closer to Sydney) beat me on putting in the 1st bid, and assuming he also had an ST I decided to let him have no competition on the price. He got them cheap, one bid I recall, so all's good there.

Usually I get half of one and my wife gets the other 1 1/2. It's my understanding that the panniers did not come standard on bikes outside of the US. Even though it is 600 miles, how available are they if you decide to pass? Will you be able to find another set easily? Remember, the ST was discontinued in 2007 and if you want panniers, there may not be other opportunities.

After Dec 31, 2012, the Ducati Designs Sport Touring Headlight Upgrade will
no longer be available. It has been an amazing run, but sales have pretty
much bottomed out in the past year. Established owners of these fine bikes
are well past the upgrading phase and new owners of 10-15 year old bikes are
just not likely to install such an expensive upgrade. The cost to keep
inventory on the shelf to be able to support reasonable lead times is just
not justified by such a low run rate, and the product does not lend itself
to "build to order" manufacturing. If a "group buy" were organized in the
future, I might be able to fill it.

When I started this project back in 2002, I really planned to build just one
for myself. 10 years and over 1,500 headlights later, the product's
popularity has exceeded my wildest dreams. It is very rewarding that so many
of you have put your trust in me and the product and discovered that riding
after dark doesn't have to be frightening. But by far the biggest reward is
the scores of life-long friends I have made along the way. I will continue
to look for innovative products to offer and hopefully, keep Ducati Designs
sailing for the foreseeable future.

Thanks to all of you, my friends.

Re: [DucatiST] Re: shorai-lfx18a1-bs12-lithium-iron-battery

The Shorai web site says the Deltran battery Tender is just fine.
You just can't use one that has anti- sulfation modes.
(Well, that's what I read on their website anyway)

I will probably buy one of those for KTM dirtbike (to drop a bit of weight with more power)- and perhaps the Multi (still has original 2005 batt)

The cost of the battery was $168.25 and the tender was $71.95 or $240.20 USD. The weight difference is amazing and I haven't needed to keep this battery on a tender during the riding season. I have used the Shorai tender for extended winter time non-use. The battery comes with a bunch of foam blocks that you can cut to size to fill up the original battery space so the new battery doesn't flop around. As I use LT's fan switch almost all the time riding in the city it doesn't appear to cause any problems with the Shorai.

Re: [DucatiST] End of the line

I only have two of your designs at present, Paul, but both are absolutely necessary; The headlights and a taillight on my ST2.  For someone like me, with major vision issues, the headlights do just that:  Enable riding at night with no fear.  I can ride the Monster at night, with a significant reduction of my usual speeds, but the ST is really amazing with those lights.  I can go wherever/whenever I wish, which has never happened until now in my 49 years of riding motorcycles.

I'll speak for myself and those who may not see your note and say, Thank YOU for using your agile mind to benefit all of us.  We'll be waiting to see what you think of next.

Hopper, you may want to try giving that AGM a high-current charge, before giving up on it.  My understanding is that, for most AGM batteries, a tender may maintain a charge, but will not charge it up.  Those can take very high current for charging.

I plan on getting one of the new state of the art batteries so I'm all ears on any feedback too.

I believe the Superlight is the highest risk and basically you pay the
premium on that and the others get thrown in for free. I must steel myself
and call tomorrow to add the others - when I've had Multistrada 1000s before
they have been the highest risk and it'll be interesting (gulp!) to see if
that or the 748 is higher.

The Condor is great, underpowered (18bhp) but sounds like a proper Ducati
single. When I got it I had a problem starting it but swapping the lawnmower
spark plug for a proper one and setting the points made a huge difference.
I'm fairly used to the right hand change but I must admit to a lack of
sensitivity with my left foot on the rear brake!

For anyone unfamiliar with the Condor A350, it's a Swiss Army bike (complete
with spike to get stones out of horses hooves) with a Ducati 350 single
motor.
