Ducati ST4S 2002 30,000miles
Bike has an intermittent none fire fault when trying to start after a run that is engine will turn over but not fire, this was accompanied at times with reluctant to fire up but would start after a few attempts.
The non start fault has happened on 5 occasions after a run. Try to start the bike engine almost catches but then just turns over with out firing. (I do remove the key.)
Things tried so far
Disconnected and cleaned all connectors on the loom with contact cleaner. Provided the ECU with a dedicated earth connection to the battery, fitted heavier 16mm starter motor leads and a new additional 16mm earth to the engine. The starter solenoid shows nil resistance across the starter contacts when engaged. Checked and confirmed engine sensor gap of 0.7mm. Fitted new battery and plugs.
Bike was taken to Riders for a full diagnostic
They found one inlet manifold joint leaking the inlet gaskets were replaced tests were completed and bike set up.
The test revealed an anomaly in the ECU.
They found a reading of 14v that's with engine not running on the Red/Blue wire, Pin No: B4 on the Grey connector on the ECU.
They reported that all other parameters appear normal and they could not see what effect this might have if any as the bike was running nicely.
Rode the bike home and yes it ran better than it ever had. Got home after a ride of 110 miles. Switched off engine whilst opening garage doors tried to restart engine nearly fired but the just cranked. Left for 2-3 hr retried and bike fired up with no problems.
ECU has been sent to specialist and tested with no faults reported and no sign of the 14v reading.
ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS PLEASE.
Bill.
