Bill,
I know I probably already mentioned this, but did you check the pickup air gap?
.5-.6mm is good, (rumour is some racebikes are set up to about .2mm).
I like to use a small, folding wire type spark plug gap gauge. It's easier to turn the wire tip 90 degrees for insertion into the cases, you gotta get a "feel for the wheel" for this one because it's hard to see into the inspection hole. An extra set of hands to hold a bright focusable light and an inspection mirror can be handy.
Did you ohm your pickup? The corresponding harness wire color is white and brown, #1 & #2, and is hard to see on the pickup wire for it is sealed, #3 is just a ground shield. Should be about 900 ohms, .9 k ohms if your meter displays that way.
I try to test before I buy, for most places won't accept electrical items on a return.

Subject: [DucatiST] Further to Starting problems and engine sensor
Ref My starting problems and resent request regarding info on the engine sensor.
Bike ST4s 2002.
The main consensus of advice would be to replace the engine sensor. Witch I am about to do.
Have now removed the existing sensor from engine. I am now wondering if it's the correct unit?
It's a Bosch with the following numbers on it 189 22 124 and 0 261210.
The cable exits at the end of sensor in line with the body.
Can any one advise please.
Regards Bill Dag.
