Subject: [DucatiST] Re: Broken Engine Mount, Crack in Case

Hi... I am in Australia so this may not reflect all over the world, but I have seen 3 of these in the past.

My recolection is that they were all 1997 models, but I do recall I think, being told that the problem existed with a few other glitches to 2002. which is when I bought mine.

I had a friend here with one that broke in March this year. A pristine cared for 97 model with 45,000 kilometers.

Ducati provided a new frame and new cases to rectify the problem but would not cover labor costs.

This was a recognised fault as were others in other models (my wife has a 97 900ss that had had both a frame & swing arm under warranty).

Ducati as I see it are not liable this far out on a bike of that age, but have in my experience dealt with a 'good-will-warranty'. The fact is we all love these things but problems like this can sour the strongest relationships... they want to keep loyal customers.

I'd suggest contacting you importer. Pressure them.

As for riding? The one I saw break in march simply colapsed and hemoraged oil although it still ran whilst leaking. I would stay off it!

Good luck.
