I've posted some pics in the photos section under Cam Belt Alignment.
It's all remarkably simple when you see it but it wasn't for quite some time.
What I found worthwhile noting is that the although the misalignment to all appearances seemed to be caused by the adjustable idler, it was raising the fixed idler slightly more that was the cure.
Shimming both idlers by 0.3mm helped but did very little.
It was adding another 0.3mm to the fixed idler that shifted the belt across.....adding to the subtle tilt of the adjustable pulley I had thought was causing the problem.
I was also surprised that the adding of such a small amount behind the fixed pulley shifted the belt over about 3.5mm.
The grotty looking trial shims in the photo were made from an old quiche pan base.
Started the bike this evening and ran it up to operating temp for the 1st time in months..quiet valves, happy belts, no leaks.
The world is good again.
Colin.
