I'd go halfway with you on the Monster if it was one of the earliest 600 ones with the Pantah-like motor. The cast alloy cambelt covers were a work of art, but Ducati dropped the styling ball completely when they went over to grey cardboard covers, and found fifteen extra places to attach cables to the motor. From that time until the 696 Monster surfaced, the stylists simply turned a blind eye to the mechanical bits. How things had changed from the days of the Bevels, Singles and yes, the Pantah. Now, they've realised that aesthetics do matter, whatever the component does. Hooray!!
