Thanks for that suggestion Bob. Actually, the extension
does seem to live on as the "Flexi-Mate" e.g. as seen here:

although I'm inclined to try out a 1/4" socket extension like this:
http://www.axminster.co.uk/proxxon-proxxon-1-4-drive-flexible-extension-bar-prod806517/
because I think the Fleximate collar is a little bit undersized for this application.
Michael Toolmath, I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone in having this
problem.
