Sounds like you got a wheel for an SS, at's 4mm narrower disk-sprocket.
I never did get around to figuring out on which side, though, I should
do that some time (I've got an SS 1000 and an ST2).

I've swapped an ST wheel oto my 900SP before and it was a straight swap and swapped out five spokes for three spokes. Same hub dimensions.
