Lee,
Important items to measure, inspect etc.
Most important: Rear tire centerline tracks true with front tire centerline viewed from rear.
1. Rear sprocket lines up with the front sprocket when viewed from the rear.
2. Rear disc is in the middle of the disc brake caliper when viewed from the rear.
3. Adequate sidewall tire clearance (remember that the tire increases a bit in size when things heat up).
I've done some repair work, on "customized" bikes, that was bloody amazing.
One Monster came in with beautiful Carrozeria forged/machined wheels with the rear axle bolts so loose it was dangerous to ride, imho. When I torqued the nuts to spec the rear bearings would bind due to a 5mm too short bearing spacer. So the previous "mechanic" left the nuts loose so the wheel could turn!
The disc was rubbing on the left/inside of the brake caliper, and the chain was not aligning with the front sprocket.
So I had to fab up some spacers and a proper length inner bearing spacer.
Once sorted she rode just fine, but man, it took a while to figure out.
Ciao, Nick Alaniz, 2002 Ducati ST4$, Sacramento, CaL.

Subject: Re: [DucatiST] marchesini GAP
Just to clarify, when i placed the new rear wheel into the swingarm i noticed it had gaps between the componants, and before i did up the axle nuts soon realised the NORMAL few threads which usually reside each side would be a few more, perhaps some dont see a problem with this, and maybe there isnt as i guess the swingarm would just squash in the 2mm each side,OR maybe it would deform and place a load where there shouldnt be one.
So there is a chance this hasnt been noticed when its been done before,(it surely must have with a now 10 year old bike) as im sure there is enough thread on the axle to pull in that little bit more.
Thoughts, regards.lee IN officially summer OZ.
