I use a cheap TomTom 530 car-type satnav, which has the motorway lane direction Nick mentions in the newer Zumo. It nestles in a custom cradle using the resilient mounts that Paul Geller used in his anti-vibration mount, and is parked right underneath the screen so it is protected from anything other than horizontal rain from behind! In that position, I can see it with just a flick of the eyes. Only downside is that the rev counter range of 7K upwards is obscured, but that's no real problem. The unit works superbly too, and I link it by cable to a pair of mini speakers in my helmet. In fact, I've used the same system tucked into a rucksack on a bike with no mount, and navigated unfamiliar roads purely by voice prompts, which are good with the TomTom.
