I own a Joe Rocket Sonic 2 and have used it as my primary riding jacket for the last 6 or 7 years. It has held up fairly well during that time and, in fact, survived an ill-fated track day excursion with only a couple of minor scuff marks (unlike its owner ;-)
The removable textile side panels do provide for a good deal of ventilation and don't seem to be compromising protection to any great extent. On very warm days however, I found it necessary to leave the front zipper part way down to allow air flow over my chest. Also the black leather absorbs a lot of heat making the back of the jacket uncomfortably warm on hot sunny days. I now have a light colored, perforated leather/textile jacket I wear when the temperature is much over 85F. Not owning heated gear, I don't ride when the temp is much below 45F but it doesn't seem to leak any cold air.
Lately, however, I've noticed the stitching on some of the seams starting to come apart. This same issue has been mentioned on other forums regarding Joe Rocket gear. I suspect it's because what ever thread they're using isn't very UV resistant. Can't say if this is an issue on their current line.
