So, have learned much about Duc ECUs. Caveat, this is a compilation of what I have been told by 3 or 4 Duc Dealars and aftermarket shops. Have confirmed that my ABS works again with stock ABS ECU
St4S ABS/non ABS ECUs are different. In the US you need an ABS ECU to support ABS. Apparently not so in Scotland. Stock ABS ECUs differ for the year of ST4S ABS (did not ask about non ABS) However, same part number for ABS DP ECUs, so I am guessing that may reflect a change in EPA requirements as if a performance enhancement you would expect the DP to change too. Stock ABS ECUs run about $1,600, list price, more than a non ABS DP ECU (1,300 ball park) and may be hard to find.
But, you can have your ECU reflashed by Houston Superbikes for $250.00, to any program you want, ABS, non ABS, DP, Stock, etc. For about $460, you can buy a "virgin" ECU from them with program of your choice. A "virgin" ECU is one that has been used but never with the Red key, which, I am told locks the ECU to the bike's immobilizer. Houston claims many are dealer take-offs when customer upgrades to DP at time of purchase. Apparently, if you buy a used ECU and it has been bonded to a bike, to use it on your bike, you have to have it reflashed at a cost of $250 to use it on your bike.
Houston Superbike states its machine/computer for reflashing cost about 30K Euros, which may explain why your local Duc dealer/shop does not have one. He can pull up the map on your chip and overlay it with another on the computer to view changes before installation. Interestingly, any ECU can be programmed to run ABS. He can also build a custom chip for your bike on his dyno suited exactly to your state of tune.
All knowledgeable persons (at least they said they were and I believe everything I am told) state the power commander is not a good fix, Most said they encounter more problems than fixes with them. All stated that the DP is they best way to go, short of a custom map on a Ducati ECU.
