That's what I am think at best I would only need to add a link and go with 104.

As far a gearing down I guess it depends on the type of riding you do. I very rarely ride on the highway and always felt the bike was not geared best for the mountains and aroud town. I bought the bike new and within a thousand miles put on a 14 tooth front. I felt it was better than the 15/43 but geard it down a bit too much. It is time for a new chain and I think a 15/44 should be a good compromise. I know a 15/43 is to high for my riding so it was either a 44 or 45.

Since the chain adjustment is pretty comfortable in the axle slots on mine, I would have thought you'd only need to lengthen the chain by one link, if at all, as the diameter of the sprocket is very little different. Just my guess though...
