Hi snow bunnies in the cold lands. I've just arrived back from a 580km ride (round trip) down to visit my mechanic "Bob Brown" to fit up some extras, and to fit one of his new clutches, very sweet. Left in the 35' C heat and copped warm dry roads all the way down, with spasmodic speeds in the 160kph area, hill country and no cops. I returned in torrential rain for the last 2hrs of the journey and basically surfed most of the way with total white-outs when trucks hit the big puddles, not so sweet, but an accepted part of motorcycling even when one has only the leathers onboard. I weighed half as much again as usual, when I stepped off the bike. Still a great ride.... but!!???
I have to ask if any other ST owners have attempted to install the fairing replacement brackets as supplied by a fellow lister, (no name will be mentioned at this point) the middle fairing has to loose 2 of the mounting lugs to do the job, and they cannot be put 'back on' once this is done. Then 2 stainless steel bands hold the upper fairing in place (with zoos, miss spelling intended, male & female fasteners) to enable the middle/lowers fairings to be removed while the upper fairing stays in place. I figure you know what I'm on about and possibly the product, and it's source. We (Bob, 40 years Ducati mechanic) and I toiled on this for *%#!ing hours and there is no way, and I say "no way" that it is possible to do, as is said, with this product. So anyone who has gone the same way as I did and made the fairing removal more difficult, for the rest of time, could you tell me if you had positive results with the fitment. And if so, how did you do it? My fairings still require the removal of the lot, as the lowers will not go into position without knocking the fasteners out of line. And the brackets themselves are too tight across the space to easily fit the male to the female and hold the fairings together, and the pre drilled holes on one side didn't line up with the fairing holes. All together a pain in the arse, and thumbs. Feed back would be appreciated, as from where I stand at the moment I would not recommend this system to my worst enemy.
Not normally a bleeding heart, ride safe.
