Take a look at the front brake disc carriers. 1999 and older should have rather solid carriers with round holes. 2000 (in the US) switched to more skeletal carriers with trapezoidal cutouts.
Also, many early 99's did not have the model name on the fairings, just the word Ducati. Lots of variation on that, though.
