Ian, I ride an ST4 and a 748 and I too suffered from pins and needles and numbness on longer rides. Like most these days, I ride with my fingers over the brake lever ready for the unexpected. On a trip to Belgium last year the pins and needles and numbness got so bad that I had to forget the brake lever just to hold the twist grip open. Within a few miles the pins and needles and numbness had gone but only to return when I went back to resting my fingers on the brake lever. It was because of the slight pressure on the nerves in the carpal tunnel caused by the slightly upturned fingers and hand relative to the wrist. Try to adjust things to ensure that the angle that the upper surface of your hand makes with your forearm is 180 deg or more. Works for me. Good luck.
