Watch out for '99 models with the older electrical system. Some still have single-phase charging. You can look at the side cover on the left and it's obvious which is which. The 3-phase cover has a larger round area where the stator is and the window is almost flush, where the window on a single-phase bike protrudes a good deal. If you're not sure about that, follow the stator lead coming out of the left side cover at the front. Single-phase stators have a big, white, 2-pin plug. 3-phase has 3 not-so-big yellow wires and a smaller plug.
I'm not aware of changes beyond the charging, but there may be some.

read, there were a few running changes, but the major change is to the
upgraded, 3-phase, electrical system.
Somewhat separately, what can I ask a seller to look for to determine if
the electrical system is the 1-phase or 3-phase system?
