Re: [DucatiST] Re: overheating [1 Attachment]

Duckphiles,

I installed a GSXR fan purchased on ebay for $15.00 on the right side of the radiator.  Removed the stock mounting bracket, ground off the fan outer curved lip for clearance, and fabbed up a three wire mount.  This setup is about 1.5 pounds lighter and the reverse curve scimitar type fan blade really moves some air.  I'll try to attach a photo of the right side of the bike.

My brother calls my bike "Duckenstein" because of the major surgery and different parts, like the Frankenstein monster.

In the photo you can also see (among other stuff done) my "single" hose fuel line mod which runs behind the vertical cylinder belt cover (with red heat shrink).   Access for removing the belt covers, changing the belts and adjusting the valves is a snap now.

Onward!
Ciao, Nick Alaniz, 2002 Ducati ST4$, Sacramento, CaL.

I agree with the coolant not circulating but you get a "reservoir" of cooler coolant in the radiator when you refire the engine. I would only use it like when getting gas, or getting something at a convience store or checking out a view point, etc, not for a long term stop.

I also forgot to mention too that Desmo Times has a larger capacity radiator fan that you can install. I have one on my ST4s and just got one in yesterday that will go on my "new for me" '01 996 Superbike. I might put an override switch on it too.

I also used a switch that glows red when the power is on to the fan and is inline of sight so it is a reminder that the fan is running when the bike is off. You should be able to hear ir run normally.

I may regret it sometime in the future, but we'll see.

Hooper,

I also installed my fan overide switch without a relay. It stays on when I shut off the engine but the fan is loud enough that I have never failed to notice it, even with ear plugs in and helmet on. I don't think running the fan after the engine is off does much good because once the water pump stops turning there is no circulation to the radiator. I have owned cars that were set up to allow the fan to run with the engine off for a few minutes. I usually stood around and waited for the fan to shut off.
