Agreed, but ear plugs won't stop you hearing it! The best way is to make a change to the plate-pack. My ST4 certainly groaned on occasion with a Dr Desmo pack (I never experienced an OEM pack) but has NEVER done so with the Barnett plates got with my 'Charlie' basket. Something to do with the friction material perhaps, but I suspect it has more to do with the spring plate, which is wavy rather than conical. And this pack allows very sensitive use of the clutch, which is not at all like an on-off switch. Add that to a progressive throttle and launching can be as gentle or abrupt as you like!
