Sorry for the intrusion, but for some reason this summer has seen a
surge of anti biking legislation proposed, mostly from Europe, that you
may not be aware of. For a summary see here - I've never seen the like:
http://survivalskills.wordpress.com/2011/06/21/new-anti-motorcycle-legislation-sweeps-europe/
I'm a MAG life member, and to their credit they've been campaigning
against them for what seems like ever. And so far managed to push back
the timetable of the EU Type Approval stuff (mandatory always on ABS, no
engine tuning, random road side bike checks, etc) by a few months. But
there's a lot of lobbying in favour of the proposals and though there's
some sympathy for MAG's stance we're worried our voice will be drowned
out when MEPs take the crucial vote in early October. So we're
organising an (imho) inspired nationwide event to show there's
substantial opposition to the proposals and strengthen our negotiating
hand. If there's a good turnout.
Fortunately it's simple. On Sunday 25th September (a week before the
critical vote) at 1:00pm precisely, groups of bikers all over the UK
leave motorway service areas and drive perfectly legally around 45mph in
lanes one and two for about 20 minutes, then go home. Simple to
organise, easy to support and potentially spectacular enough to make the
national news – it just needs plenty of bikes to turn up. MAG central
are alerting the national press and publicising the meeting points. I'm
doing Fleet services, northbound but there should be a venue near you:
see here for latest info.

And for facebookers

Should be a hoot - go on, you know you want to do it! And tell your friends!
Cheers - Nick
