Glad to hear no serious damage to you, Randy. Bikes can be fixed, and what the hell, it's a great excuse to find something new!
I had a freak accident a few years ago where a semi BACKED over my ST4 - long story, but I was OK and it got totalled. I thought about all sorts of replacements, but ended up buying an almost identical 2001 ST4, because it had been such a good all-around bike. It is my go-to bike for a fun day or weekend in the mountains of N. Georgia.
Regarding your potential choices, I am lucky enough to have both a 2001 ST4 and a 05 MV F4 1000. I had always lusted after one, and when one showed up on Craigslist last winter for a steal, I jumped. It is an awesome bike, faster than anything I have ever ridden. Sounds awesome, handles great, looks even better. I will probably have it for a long time. BUT, as others have said far better than I can put it, it is a totally different experience than riding a v-twin. I have had several Ducati's and an Aprilia Tuono, and taken them on day trips, week trips, and done track days on them all. No problems. The MV is my first inline-4, so my first high-revving, screamer bike experience. Total blast at a place like Road Atlanta - not so much at someplace like Talladega GP. Riding it is much more involving than the Ducatis or Aprilia. There was a comparison a year or so ago in one of the bike mags between a 1098 and an MV F4 and they nailed it - said they were both scary fast, but the Ducati didn't seem like it was going that fast and the MV was much harder work.
Street-riding is another story. After 200 miles on the MV, I am done. Wrists, butt, no steering lock, it's just too painful. Granted, I am almost 59, but for me the MV is basically a track bike or short day-ride bike.
But Damn, it looks good!
YMMV, Regards, Ted

> Well Friends, it finally happened to me. It's been quiet on the board for a while, so this should spark some discussion...I went for a neighborhood ride after work on Wednesday, stopped to meet SWMBO for a bite then headed home. A teenager pulled out in front of me from an intersection in his Toyota Camry. I was doing about 35-40 mph and had about a hundred feet or so worth of time and distance to react. Luckily, I impacted his right front fender (lucky, not to hit the roof line/door), straight up and high-sided, flipped over his hood and landed almost flat on the road. I was able to sit up after a few seconds and assess the damage to myself, which was minimal. After being checked out by the EMTs and FD crews, the doctors confirmed no broken bones, just a lot of bruising. My left knee is extremely swollen, ribs/lungs/arm bruised but that's it. An eye witness said that I landed on my head first, although I don't exactly recall impacting the road, it feels more like I landed on the left side of my body and very little damage to my lid. I know how lucky and blessed I am at this moment that it was not worse. I'm thankful to have so many caring people to check on me in the last couple of days. I was wearing my helmet, gloves and boots with jeans - no jacket. Luckily I didn't low side or slide, so almost no road rash at all. I know that my helmet saved my noggin, so I'll preach to the choir and praise all who are diligent in wearing their gear. It saved my life.

Right now, I'm hoping for an 848 or an MV Agusta F4. That's another topic for debate. I'm not sure I'll end up with another ST, whether I do or not I would just like to say that I appreciate being a part of this group, and have been enlightened and entertained by many of you over the last 4-5 years. I'll keep an eye on the group, as well as keep you posted on my progress and my new ride, when she's available. Comments/Suggestions welcome on replacements. I know most will say another ST or MTS. I'd gladly go for another ST if the line was what it used to be, not to knock the MTS but for me, the style isn't me. Yada-Ya....
