It looks like this crack will grow and so I'm thinking about drilling a 1/8" hole at the end of the crack to keep it from growing. Anybody out there have a good solution for repairing this kind of crack.

First thing is to try to reduce the stress that has caused it. It could, of course, have been dropped, but the bolt locations didn't line up well on mine, leading to the need for a lot of muscle to fit the panels. Not good, so I shifted holes a bit and eased it significantly. So far as the cracks were concerned, I didn't go high-tec-weld but simply backed them with thin alloy sheet and a hard polyester body-filler, then painted cellulose (red, naturally) into the cracks on the outside. This repair has lasted a good many years and miles without the crack re-occurring. Not cosmetically perfect, but I'm happy to let my ST share some of the scars of usage/age with me!
