I just may need to mosey on down there. Problem is, I'd have go past Terminal Gravity and their great campground!
-JeffS> I'm hereby announcing a get together in central-eastern Oregon, Oct 7-9. Might be just me getting together with myself, or even better, maybe some of you folks would like to come along. Home base will be beautiful Prairie City, Oregon, about 20 minutes east of the intersection of US 395 and US 26, just down the road from John Day. The lovely Hotel Prairie has 7 rooms available right now, less later. There are other little B&B lodgings in Prairie City, as well as a Best Western and similar motels up in John Day and of course, Baker City is pretty close. For a solid breakfast there's Chuck's diner (Chicken Fried Steak and eggs!!!!) and the Oxbow for evening food and drink (grand old bar!). I'll be heading there on Friday for a late afternoon arrival, wander the mountains Saturday and wiggle my may back to Portland come Sunday.

Turbo and I have crisscrossed dozens of killer roads in the area. Ukiah, Heppner, Sumpter, Fossil, Shaniko, Baker City, Dooley Mtn, all an easy day loop dragging pegs and gobbling ice cream, red-hot sausages from specimen jars and junk food. Its a quick hop up from Norcal on 395, or down from Washingthon. The weather is usually great around Columbus Day weekend (although it is Oregon, so pack your plastic), schools are in, the campers are back in their respective driveways, very favorable for bikes.
