Mike, I have rebuilt the starter on my '96 900SS/CR several times in the past. I went to the local bearing emporium and got the ball bearing and then went to my friendly local Honda dealer to get the bush, brushes/brush plate and the cable stud. All tollled, the cost was less than $50, US. Actually $33 comes to mind but that may have been the Honda parts and inflation has raised it's ugly head here, too. I had priced a starter from a Houston Honda/Ducati dealer and it was over $800 and no rebuild suggestions from them...I do very little business with them now! I'm on a drilling rig right now so I don't have access to my shop manual where I have all the part number written down. If I remember when I get in from the rig, I'll send out an e-mail for everyone with all the part numbers on it. Still the price of 120 quid is a real good quote for a new starter motor! Keep your old motor and rebuild it as a spare. Also when you go to hook up the starter cable to the motor stud, glop a bunch of dielectric grease all over the stud/cable lug so that you can easily get it off the next time you need to pull it. Water has a tendency to run down the cable and leak into the boot and then stay there, corroding the connection. Cheers...Hopper --- On Mon, 8/29/11, mike <mike.vaughan@ntlworld.com> wrote:
