Re: [DucatiST] Dreaded Tyre/tire thread

Ah, tyres again: as I'm just back from scrubbing in a new set, here are my own $0.02...

48k miles on my ST4s, all on Pirelli:
- 40,000 on Diablo Corse I/II/III: typically getting 1800-3000 miles out of a rear and twice that from a front. Fantastic grip and neutral steering, need smooth throttle hand in the wet but still v good.
- 5000 on Diablo Rossos: better in the wet than the DCs, otherwise very similar feel. Managed to get through last rear in 1400 miles,  and handling falls off a cliff as they square off, so switched to:
- 3000 so far on Angel STs: slightly 'heavier' feel than Diablos, but similar feel again (I find all the Pirellis have a similar 'family' feel - as in they feel that they belong to a product family, not that they have a similar feel when you run over a family...). Good in the wet, but feel quite slow to warm up. Hardly worn at 3k.

6k so far on my Mutley 1200S:
- 3400 on the OEM Pirelli Scorpions - remarkably good tyre in all conditions, including track days.
- 2400 on Diablo Rosso Corses - Fantastic dry grip (as per normal), slow to warm up, need care on cold, wet Scottish roads (ie any time this 'summer') and make the Mutley's handling quite lively.
- 30 so far on Michelin Pilot Road 3s. So far, am very, very impressed: feel rock solid, track like on rails and still turn quickly. Very, very planted feel.

And of course the Bury St Edmunds problem is sugar beet sludge on all local roads - it's like a skating rink around there - I used to have great fun on the A14/A143 roundabout in a rear-drive BMW.

cheers
Richard

Which bit would that be? There are some linear grooves on the A11 caused by heavy goods that can produce weird wandering feelings on a bike, but I don't recall any on that road (I live close by).

Just the current designation of the Avon Storms
