Kind of depends on where you live and what kind of weather you are going to get.
Where I live, we get 4 months of snow and lousy riding weather. In my case I will:
- add fuel stabilizer and fill the fuel tank completely
- give the bike a bath and dry it thoroughly
- run the engine to make sure that the stabilized gets completely through the fuel injection system
- change the oil and filter
- oil the chain
- add leads for a battery tender or remove the battery completely (charge the battery once a month, or put the battery tender on a timer, they don't need to be connected 24/7)
- park the bike on the center stand in a dry location (I don't worry about propping up both wheels), leave the tires with the normal pressures
- cover it with an old sheet or breathable cover
- drop by and say hello once and a while during the winter to make sure that it knows that it is still loved.
There are a whole bunch of other things that you can do if you want to get anal, but other that spreading mouse bait around the storage area (to keep the mice from taking up residence in the air box etc), that is all I do.
Alternately, park it in your living room, and ignore the stares from SWMBO!
