I think the reference may refer to the standard method of fixing the front brake discs to the carrier. The buttons incorporate a Belleville type washer that allows some float in the disc. They tend to get a little stiff with the ingress of very fine grit so tapping and turning the buttons every now and then to free them off can improve brake performance.
