I'll give a little wave as I pass near your area on I-77 headed from Michigan to Charleston, SC Monday. I don't think most people associate Virginia with mountains, but they're pretty striking. There must be a lot of great roads around you.
The southern Appalachians make for the best riding east of the Mississippi. Every May the Michigan contingent of MSTA spends a week riding the twisties in western NC, with some loops into TN, GA and SC, from a base point just south of Smokey Mountain National Park. There are some great roads for the ride down and back in eastern KY and TN too. My ST3 is perfect for the long rides down and back and the more intense corner carving while there.
On the hardware front, I've been frequenting a little family owned Neighorhood Hardware since I bought my first house in 1976, and I make a point of buying at least some stuff there because they've given me so much helpful advice an service over the years. I feel almost like I'm supporting a non-profit along with my other regular charities. But like most people I go to Home Depot or Lowes for the big projects.
