[DucatiST] regulator wires - 2 or 3?

 

Hi I'm back with a question this time.

While reading up on ST problems I found a mention of discoloured white connectors on the regulator to stator wires.

So I checked mine, and found it was discoloured, melted, broken and generally in very bad shape.

but that's not what confuses me, it's the fact that there's two wires going into the connector on the stator side, three wires coming out on the reg side.

does that sound right? for a 1997 ST2
