[DucatiST] 3 phase stator in a '98?

 

Apologies for going over old ground but I've been through the archive and
can't find what I need to know.

I have just picked up a '98 ST2 very cheap as it is not charging. I haven't
yet tested it but the PO said it needs a stator.

Assuming this to be the case is it possible to upgrade to a 3 phase system
and what does it require?

If it isn't straightforward I will probably just spring for a single phase
stator from Electrex.
