Funny that! Each to his own but I've always thought the motors and services on modern* Ducatis are so ugly, they need covering. Add to that that my fairings hardly ever need to come off (one reason is a decent no-maintenance battery) and I don't see the need to mount a expensive miniature battery with little track record of reliability in a place where I can carry a big chain and padlock or my sandwiches...
*My '85 Alazzurra (Pantah derivative) does have a pretty engine I'm proud to see, and my early M750 Monster which has a development of the same engine is also elegant, predating the later cam-belt covers that look as though they come off farm machinery.
Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder, Brad!
