I've hit deer twice while riding a motorcycle. Both times the deer didn't touch the bike.
The first time was when my 1997 M900 Monster was less than 24 hours old. A baby deer was trying to catch up with its mother and I for some stupid reason thought I could power on past. The faster I went the faster the little deer went and I ended up punching it in the head with my knee. I never went back to see if it was hurt.
The second time was soon after I purchased my KTM. I was riding at night fairly slowly and a deer jumped out of the bushes in front of me. I stuck my foot out in front of me and sort of pushed it out of the way. That one definitely was not hurt.
My general rule is to slow right down whenever I see any sort of animals in the path ahead. I hope to avoid having one suddenly appear, but that's why we all wear protective gear.
