[DucatiST] Re: Full Floater? (was Vibrating front)

I appreciate the prompt responses to my post guys.

I agree Eddy, the problem seems to have many possible causes.Finding the right one is the trick.
My accusations of some solutions not standing up to scrutiny is not meant to dismiss others opinions…just frustration at not finding enough information on causal factors.

Freeing the buttons would always make things better…for a while.
I have little doubt new discs would improve things in a similar manner….but I hesitate because I can't help feeling I'm treating the symptoms not the cause

Brakes seem a much less complex system than an engine to troubleshoot.
Very few moving parts and not a lot of mechanical complexity….or am I being naive.
I guess I find it quite frustrating there are so many possible combinations of cures, and each one so far hasn't worked for very long for me, or has only worked in certain situations eg fine at high speed dreadful at low….or exactly the opposite, I've had both..

I have much respect for the engineers or mechanics or just wise bike guys who have been able to explain to me the actual causes behind mechanical failures or poor performance of components.
…not just that it was a failed wheel bearing, or leaking seal….but a careful appraisal of what caused the  failure….often a string of happenings or causes.

I imagine race guys must be looking for those sort of answers all the time to avoid premature failures under high stress conditions.

Most of us are aware that there are many service techs who problem solve by elimination…they just keep replacing components within the system until there's a fix.

For me when the pulsing brakes turned out to be only a sometimes-fix, I didn't feel inclined to go out and fit new rotors and pads.
Obviously the OEM ones worked well in the right conditions. But which bit of the conditions isn't right only some of the time and how do I check without using the replacement method?

The bike's about to come off for the winter here and over the next few months I'll be looking at the problem more as I service the forks and brakes again
Ian thanks for your thoughts and Nick your advice on the calipers is definitely worth exploring further thanks.

Walt you may be right that the discs are the problem……I'll take a pic of mine and you can tell me if they fit into your potentially dodgy book

Thanks again guys.

Late news..have just had a pm from another kiwi,  Nick, who had gone down same road as me inc making the OE buttons into full floaters. He seems to have now solved the prob with new full floating buttons from Corse Dynamics.Interesting..will keep you posted.
Thanks again to all for suggestions.
