Well, crashed last December 14, and finally had the bike back together last weekend, so was going to take it out for a shake-down before Madness. Went to the local Chevron and about 2 miles later, I saw a deer crossing from my left to right on Highway 128 (going out towards Berryessa for you CA folks). Was going around 60-65.
I was certain I was going to T-bone it ala Mike in Weaverville (I was right behind him when he hit his deer). Immediate instinct was to hit the gas, and I hit it hard, saw him coming closer and braced for the collision when I flashed by him and felt a big impact on my right foot. I slowly became aware I was still going down the road and was not sliding and crash testing my new riding gear. I thought I broke something in my foot and then realized it was no longer supported, the collision had swept back the right foot peg. After my adrenaline level dropped from fucking extreme off the chart to merely highly agitated, I stopped. Looked down at the bike and was amazed that my newly painted body work seemed to be ok and nothing was broken. My foot hurt too much to get off the bike, so I pulled the right peg back down and then went back to the scene to see how the deer made out.
I drove back about a mile and saw that it was dead and the left side of its head looked broken. When I saw that, my foot really started to hurt. Took a couple of pics with my iphone and then went for about a 40 mile ride,m very gingerly to start, likely the slowest trip ever for the first half. I didn't want to walk right away and my foot seemed to be starting to work.
Got home and not a scratch on the bike. Does that make me lucky or unlucky? Foot getting better, see you all in Tamarack.
