Re: [DucatiST] Soldering spikes....Be Aware!

I didn't use the 3M connectors, I used the same AMP connectors Ducati uses. So I can easily put it back to stock. It's great product. Here's a link with pictures of the conversion from 3M to AMP http://nedoc.org/forums/index.php?topic=3138.15

I have just installed one of these headlights that I purchased used from a wrecked bike, so I am familiar with the process.
There is no soldering required to install the kit as per Paul's instructions.

However, I can see where someone would be tempted to do some soldering. Not everyone likes those 3M style of wire connectors that are used to connect the stock wires to the relays. Similar connectors to those (think Vetter fairings) had a bad reputation. I was tempted to eliminate the connectors and just solder the wires myself. (I didn't BTW, I reused the already reused connectors and repacked them.)

So just because the formal instructions didn't call for soldering, doesn't mean that the wires weren't soldered. Besides, real mean don't read/need 10 page instruction manuals, do they?

Great headlight Paul, well worth the investment!!!!!!!

I think you are missing the operative statement...

"The moral of this story.......Garages have to work quickly check what they have done especially anything electrical which requires Soldering!"

Paul's right, there was no soldering involved when I installed my DD headlight.

Do me a favor, please send me a pic, Alistair. I use no soldered connections or "insulation tape" in the headlight harness. Is it possible your installer did?
