Re: [DucatiST] Throttle body sync procedure?

Best thing I`ve done for my `02 ST2 is follow the procedure listed on Brad the Bike Boy`s website for setting the TPS and the throttle bodies. Cured probably 75-80% of my surging, popping, shaking, stalling, missing dance that it used to do. You can do the "meter probe in the ECU shell" trick but I thought it would be way too much of a pain in the ass trying to make sure I haven`t accidentally touched the wrong pin while trying to coax the TPS to just the right reading. I got lucky in that I was shooting for 150mV when fully closed and I happened to hit 149 in less than 5 minutes but it is VERY sensitive. I purchased a Weatherpack 3 pin connector and spliced into the harness for the TPS. Now, if I ever have to do it again, it`s already there.

Really depends on what you're looking for.  Under 3K RPM, you should be in first gear only, on level ground.  You should accelerate out of that rev range as soon as possible.  L-Twin dynamics (in my experience) do not allow really low engine speeds with a load.  If it's missing and sputtering at engine speeds above that, you probably (typically) need to richen the mixture a bit.  Does it have aftermarket exhaust?  Airbox full of holes or lid off?  If so, does it have the chip to get the mixture back to where it belongs?  If you can't find a chip, Power Commander will fix it, though at a much higher price.  On the other hand, if you buy a Power Commander, Dynojet Research is the very best manufacturer to deal with I've ever had the pleasure of calling.  Truly some of the best Customer Service on the planet.

Hi,

I was contemplating syncing the throttles on my ST2 and have seen references to a procedure on the Ducatitech website, but I can't find it (the procedure, not the website), and 'Richard's ST2 pages' seem to have gone too.
Does anyone have a link to the procedure?
I have a feeling I should leave well alone, as I would think its never going to potter around town like a CX500, but it does stumble and miss a bit at low revs in town, which is a pain, apart from that it has rock steady and well balanced tickover and on the open road it runs perfectly. Am I expecting too much? I have some mercury carbtunes and a multimeter, so I think I have most of what i need,a part from a CO2 meter, which hopefully I can get away without.

Any advice welcome, particularly if anyone could give me a link to the procedure.

Thanks - Martin
