I changed the fan on my ST2 to an aluminum one and didn`t remove the airbox. I unbolted the rad and moved it forward enough to get my hands in and unbolt the fan housing. Be aware though that if you decide to upgrade to the aluminum fan, mine just hit the piece of rubber at the steering head cross brace and would stop it from turning. I had to elongate the holes in the mount to move it away far enough to clear. Apparently not all do this but some do. And when it was running I noticed a significant amount of increased airflow with the new fan. Seems to bring the temps down quicker.

I started on my winter maintanence on my 2001 ST2 today. One of the first things I noticed was my cooling fan motor has seized. I've got two questions concerning it;

1) is there a source other than the genuine Ducati item at $381.00?

2) 2 bolts are easy to access, it looks like I need to remove the airbox to remove the inner one. As I don't need to check the valves this time around, is there another way to access this bolt? Removing the airbox, and reinstalling is much more difficult than a valve adjustment in my opinion, and I really am trying to avoid it.
